Microneedling at home with Dr. Pen M8 (for beginners)

Microneedling has become one of the most popular skin care treatments – and it’s no wonder. When done right, the results can be as good as a professional. In this blog, I’ll share with you, step by step, how you can safely start microneedling at home using the Dr. Pen M8 microneedling pen, which is officially available in Finland.

1. Hygiene is the foundation of everything

Before you even touch the device, remember this: cleanliness is the most important safety factor in microneedling.

  • Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, dry with a clean towel.

  • Disinfect the needle cartridge and device with 70% isopropyl alcohol before each use .

  • Always use a new, sterile cartridge.

💡 Tip: When you purchase the device and accessories from www.drpen.fi , you get genuine and safe products.

2. The right needle depth for a beginner

When you start, keep the depth moderate:

  • 0.25–0.5 mm: Maintenance treatment and sensitive areas such as the eye area.

  • 0.75–1.0 mm: Wrinkles and skin tightening.

  • 1.5 mm and above: Scars and deeper lines – requires more experience.

With the Dr. Pen M8, you can easily adjust the depth and speed, allowing the device to adapt to your skin and needs.

3. Treatment technique – this is how I do it

Hold the device at a 90 degree angle to the skin. Divide the area to be treated into small sections and proceed as follows:

  1. Horizontal strokes

  2. Vertical strokes

  3. Diagonally in both directions

I use hyaluronic acid serum during the treatment so that the pen glides smoothly and the skin is moisturized at the same time.

⏱ One area = approximately 2–3 minutes.
Don't press too hard – let the device's motor do the work.

4. Aftercare – the secret to results

Immediately after treatment:

  • Rinse with cold water, dry gently.

  • Apply a soothing, hydrating serum (hyaluronic acid is a great choice).

  • Avoid makeup, acids, retinol, and vitamin C for at least 3–5 days.

  • Protect your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF every day – even indoors.

5. Treatment interval and continuity

  • Light depths (0.25–0.5 mm): every 1–2 weeks.

  • Deeper treatments (0.75–1.5 mm+): every 4–6 weeks.

I personally do a light treatment every other week and a deeper treatment only a few times a year.

6. When should microneedling not be done?

Do not have microneedling if you have:

  • Active acne or inflammation

  • Eczema, psoriasis or keloid tendency

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

7. Start safe and order yours

Microneedling at home can give amazing results – as long as you do it right.
